Friday Fill Ins!

And now off to a new mommy meme! :o)

Okay, I know, I know it's a wee bit too late for this Friday Fill-in, but we've just been oh so busy with orders lately (a good problem to have, I say) that blogging had to wait.

Nevertheless, I did not want to miss out on this fun meme so here goes:

1. A cup of tea ... is not exactly my cup of tea! I think I'm more of a coffee person!

2. The daily chaos from my boys... makes a place feel like home.

3. Everything has its beauty... especially amidst all its flaws. For that's what makes that thing unique.

4. Don't you just LOVE... the taste of strawberries?

5. Art makes me... appreciate the wonderful intricacy of the human mind.

6. LOL I just noticed I forgot... to fill in this meme ON TIME! (Sunday already boo!)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to... some much-needed zzzzzs, tomorrow my plans include... whipping up a nice weekend meal for the family and Sunday, I want to... catch up on my blogging!

Monday, March 1st!

Hey all. There's a really lovely magazine coming out called Tree Sap. Definitely worth checking out. To celebrate it's release we'll be hosting a night of multi-disciplinary performances and there's even talk of a photo booth nature room upstairs? Yowzer. Also quite special will be a set from The Ocean Floor who play very rarely these days and always kill it.

Hope to see you for the fun! Should be a great time.

Voicemails from Sammy

Samantha likes to make lots of phone calls, but often her Aunts and cousin Avery are not home when she calls so she has to leave voice mails. You can hear Samantha's voice mails to Melissa (Sessa) here and here. Note that Google voice provides a transcript of the voicemail, however, you might notice that it is not very accurate!

9 Months!

Jake has now been living outside the womb for longer than he was inside! 9 months! Where does the time go? This past month has been a whirlwind of activity. Jake has teeth! He got his two bottom middle teeth, and the top teeth are poking their way through. He's been having some difficulty with teething for the past two days. I think it's possible that 4 teeth on top are going to come through at the same time. Thank goodness for infant Motrin and Orajel!

Jake is on the move; he is getting faster with his crawling, and he's venturing all over the house. He is also pulling himself up to everything. Mainly he pulls himself up on his knees, but he is working his way up to standing. Sometimes he still takes a tumble from a sitting or kneeling position, and he does not like that one bit! He doesn't like self inflicted injuries, but he sure does tolerate a lot from Samantha! Today she whacked him on the back with a little plastic bat and he just kept right on moving.

Jake is still eating purees, but is moving on to things like Gerber puffs and crunchy snacks. He's also had some cheerios. He loves to make a huge mess out of biter biscuits and zwieback toast. I don't know what the deal is with those things, but you practically have to hose him down after eating one of those. Jake is doing lots of babbling, but not not making any consonant sounds yet. I really thought I heard him say "da" and possibly "ga" the other day, so we'll see, he might be on the verge. Of course what did I do but say "say mamamamamamama". Jake goes to the pediatrician on Monday, so we'll report the 9 month stats in a few days!

Kim Kardashian Blonde Hair

Much like her sister Kourtney, Kim Kardashian also has unbelievably beautiful thick black hair, however these pictures are from when Kim decided to go blonde.

I think Kim would look marvelous with any hair color, however her hair is so very dark, the blonde dye didn't stand a chance and the result was a strange off color of blonde.

Tough Love

So Valentine's Day is long gone. And pretty soon, February. But that doesn't mean we can't have a laugh at the worst Valentine's Day gifts of 2010 right? Come on, you're curious and we both know it!

Yahoo's Shine website compiled the top 13 worst gifts to give and unfortunately receive this love month:

"We know what you're going to say: It's the thought that counts. But, honestly, it's really not thoughtful to buy your mate a terrible gift—on Valentine's Day or ever. So, please, we beg you, significant others everywhere, don't drop your cash on any of the cutesy-bad or clueless-gross presents we've outlined [below]. No one wants them. Don't waste your money on this stuff! We're in a recession! Let's just all love each other, OK?"

Self-help books
Because we can't see anyone not taking this personally.

Anything sharp
Because it's supposed to be bad luck. According to some ancient philosophies knives and sharp objects like scissors and swords send harsh energy and are meant to sever the relationship with the receiver. (Me: Plus imagine what she would do if she really, really hates it.)

'Romantic' Facebook gifts
Because you know why.

Exercise gifts
Even if they're well-intentioned—unless the person you love begged for it—gifts like scales, exercise equipment, workout DVDs, and running shoes can lead to loads of misunderstanding, hurt feelings, and "You think I'm fat!" fights.

Office supplies
Remember "Say Anything"? Remember: "I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen"? It's kind of like that.

Drugstore chocolates
Because nothing says "I felt like I had to get you SOMETHING, OKAY?" like a red cellophane-wrapped heart with stale candy inside.

Gimmicky 'joke' gifts
Because they're usually dumb and, even if both of you laugh about it the moment, you just plunked down 13 bucks on something that's now a total waste of space.

Have you received anything worse than these? Send us a photo and a little something about it!

Things I Love Thursday: Our New Clippys!

I have been following tons of mommy blogs since forever and I have always loved reading about those very interesting mommy memes! So I figured, why don't I jump on in and join the fun?

Hello, crazy fun world of internet memes, meet No Slippy Hair Clippy ;O)

For today, I have decided to join Things I Love Thursday. And this being my first entry, of course I decided to talk about our new hair clips! (Proud momma moment here...)

As I mentioned in a previous blog entry, we have enhanced the quality of our hair clips. And I cannot begin to tell you how truly excited I am about it!

You see, our original design for the hair clips included small magnets underneath Swiss velvet to ensure a non-slip hold on your baby's super fine hair. But now, we have sourced a higher grade of luxurious velvet, giving the hair clips a superior hold without tugging at your baby's hair. They stay soft and snug on your baby's head.

I'm thrilled to let you know that because of these modifications, our clippys are now more streamlined, sleeker and light weight. So baby won't even know that the clippys are there! You will no longer worry about her taking it off and possibly losing it.

These clippys are available now. Still with our trademark adorable styles and still hand-crafted in the United States to ensure quality.

I do hope you would check out our website, http://hairclippy.com, and see which clippys would look best on your baby!

What about you? What is one thing you love that you just have to share with the whole world today?

Stranger than Fiction

Don't you love fun facts that make your brains explode? Okay, maybe not explode. But the kind that are so weird, you've never heard of it before? In strangefacts.com, they list down some pretty strange facts. I may not be able to use them in daily life, but it sure is fun to discover them! (Share these with your kid too and see how he/she quickly becomes the new neighborhood genius *wink*)

1. Most dust particles in your hose are made from dead skin!
2. Men are 6 times more likely to be struck by lightning than women.
3. Tourists visiting Ireland should know that tipping at a restaurant is considered an insult!
4. A violin contains about 70 separate pieces of wood.
5. Forest fires move faster uphill than downhill.
6. Most lipsticks contain fish scales.
7. Over 2500 left-handed people a year are killed from using products made for right-handed people.
8. A 'jiffy' is an actual unit of time: 1/100th of a second!
9. Cat urine glows under a black light.
10. Every time you lick a stamp, you consume 1/1o of a calorie.
11. The average person has 1460 dreams a year.
12. Thomas Edison, light bulb inventor, was afraid of the dark.

Where's My Little Instruction Book?

I feel like I need Mommy's Little Instruction Book Volume VII. Just when I think that I've got this parenting of two thing down something else gets thrown into the mix and I am all "what in the world am I doing?"
This weekend we installed Jake's big boy car seat and said good bye to his infant carrier. This is a good thing because he weighs over 20 pounds. That infant carrier weighs another 8 pounds (I had to actually look this up online and was shocked that it doesn't weigh more because it certainly felt like more). Regardless; do the math. That is a lot of weight to be lugging around while chasing after a toddler! I was starting to get muscle strain and pain in my arms from carrying that much around! So, needless to say, I was excited to switch to the big boy car seat.
That is I was excited until Monday when I thought; I am just going to take the kids to the grocery store for a little shop, then we'll do x, y & z. I didn't think about it very long until I realized I have no more infant car carrier to put Jake into and then plop into the grocery cart while Samantha sits in the seat of the cart. I would have two children roaming free from any type of restraint. This spells chaos. Needless to say we waited until the afternoon when Chris could go shopping with us, leading to Jake's first shopping cart ride photo op from earlier this week.
I have managed to take the kids to the gym sans infant car seat, but it really does require some preemptive planning. Who do you take out of the car first? How do you juggle two kids and bags? What about putting kids back into the car? At least when Jake was in the carrier I could put him on the ground for a few seconds. We do have both a single and double stroller, and I see myself using them a lot more. We used to use the single with the snap on car seat a lot and then would just let Samantha walk with us, but she just might have to get used to riding in a stroller again. As for the shopping trips; I don't know that I can even think about tackling that with two mobile kids by myself. My heart is racing just thinking about it!

Worth a Thousand Words

Samantha wishes summer would hurry up and get here.
What else is a girl to do but wear her swimming suit over her flannel pj's?

Jake is also hoping for summer.
Here Jake is getting ready to eat in the buff.

But alas, it is still winter as evidenced by Samantha's snowman
(which, btw, has since melted)

It's not enough to change her baby on the floor;
Samantha's babies require the real diaper changing experience!

Last but not least, here is Jake after her crawled himself back behind all of the toys!

Friday, February 26th!

Kimberley Walsh Long Flowing Hair

The English pop star could not look anymore fabulous while donning this very lovely and very expensive, long flowing hairstyle.

Kimberley Walsh is usually a sight for sore eyes, however with this particular look, she is just down right stunning.

Beautiful long curls really showcase her beautiful light sandy brown/blonde hair color, making this one of the most amazing hairstyles i have seen in quite some time.

Better Than Ever!

At No Slippy Hair Clippy, we always strive to be the best we can possibly be, to offer the highest quality of products for you and your girls to enjoy :) Here's our official press release on the enhanced quality of our clippys:

February 2010, Vacaville, CA: After a one-year wear-testing program, No Slippy Hair Clippy® is now delivering a no- slip clip that does not need a magnet for superior hold. Adding an “extra plush” luxurious velvet foundation produces an identical hold to the original magnet-enhanced clip, without impacting the patent pending design. The new clips are more streamlined and lighter weight, and hold the finest hair even better than ever, with the same no-slip guarantee. Available in stores now.

We are proud to say that No Slippy Hair Clips are the most functional hair clips in the market. Because we had you and your little girls in mind, not only are our designs adorable, but we made sure they are also of high quality and especially hand-crafted. Our products are also patent pending. In fact, we were the first in the class of non-slip hair accessories, even before big brands such as Scuncii and Goody! That shows that we had this idea prior to main stream brands (since 2000).

This time, we no longer use magnets in our hair clips. Now we have a higher grade of velvet that holds just as well, if not better, than magnets. This makes the hair clips sleeker and able to hold even the finest of hair beautifully.

We are excited for all of you to try out our hair clips, which are better than ever! Check out all our classic and latest styles at http://www.hairclippy.com.

If you love what you see, do join us in our Fan Page by clicking here. And let us know what you think of our products! We can't wait to meet you all there!

Fun Without the Sun

So you are cooped inside because of the cold weather and now you have to deal with kids who are bored to death. What do you do?

Parentdish.com suggests these fun activities to keep your little ones entertained. So you can turn what could be a 24-hour cartoon-athon (and some whining here and there) to a day of family fun.

Here are 15 ways to make the most of a snowy day:

1. If the snow hasn't started falling yet, make a quick trip to the dollar or toy store and stock up on a few surprises. The newness of a few inexpensive toys can hold boredom at bay.

2. Rotate board games so they don't become "bored" games and bring out hidden toys to make old ones seem brand new. Every few months (or at the end of each season), store some of the family games and toys away for a surprising unveiling later.

3. Look around your house for unused or underused craft items. Pull those out alongside the glue, paint, scissors and paper. Nothing says "entertainment" more than magazines to rip up, cardboard toilet paper rolls, discarded buttons and cloth trimmings. Sit down with your kids and see how creative you can be.

4. Organize and assign an art project with a theme. Search online for ideas.

5. Enjoy the snow. Dress warmly and explore the neighborhood. Involve the kids in finding different things on your block. See if you can find animal tracks or explore the science behind snow and ice.

6. Stick closer to home. Use food coloring to paint the snow, go sledding, make snow angels or build snow critters.

7. Create a snow-day memory. Take photos of the day's activities and print them from your home computer. At the end of the day, give each child a piece of paper and some of the photos to create a collage of the day's events. Taking photos of activities gives you goals throughout the day, and the collage gives them a keepsake.

Check out the rest of the activities here! And share with us how your own snowy day turns out!

Top ten Things to know about women

1.Ignore them:
If I come into a room and bounce up to Lou-Lou like a clown, trying to amuse and entertain, she blanks me completely. It’s as if I don’t exist. If I walk straight past her, however, I guarantee she will call out my name and want to play with me.
2. Bribe them:
Gifts work. Preferably something noisy or sparkly. With Lou-Lou, that means stuffed animals that sing or sequined hair grips. With grown women, I suppose that equates to, say, cars and jewellery.

3. Compliment them:I’ve mistakenly always held that compliments are like diamonds: valuable only for their scarcity. Flood the market and they lose all value. Not so. Lou-Lou poos in her nappy, everyone cheers – as if she just came up with a workable solution to world hunger – and she beams like a lighthouse. The same works with grown women, although, of course, only the general principle applies rather than the specific example given here. (I learnt this one the hard way.)

4. Listen to them:
I’ve spent my life trying to preempt what women want. I needn’t have bothered. If I just pay attention, Lou-Lou will tell me exactly what she wants: eat, dance, doll, jump, run, sing, play, read. Then all I have to do is organise it. How much simpler my life would have been if I had listened and acted accordingly.

5. Apologise:It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. It doesn’t matter if you don’t even know what you’ve done. I might have slighted Lou-Lou by putting the wrong doll in the pram. What seems to you or me like a minor infraction is, to her, on a par with genocide. The best policy is to throw yourself on her mercy and beg forgiveness. But you must sound sincere. You don’t have to be sincere, just sound sincere. This is so elementary, yet how many men ignore this advice?

6. Let them do it:
Whatever “it” is. No matter how ridiculous it may seem to you, let her do it. When Lou-Lou gets an idea into her mind, there’s no talking her out of it. In fact, be supportive, encourage her even. Then sit back and hope she discovers for herself that it was a stupid idea. The downside is that she might decide it was an excellent idea. One day, I found myself playing dolls’ tea party for two whole hours and drank so many cups of imaginary tea, I was imaginary peeing all afternoon.

7. Don't tell them what to do:
The best way to guarantee that she doesn’t do what I want is by telling her to do it. The clever thing is to make it seem like her idea – and make it seem fun. One of my proudest moments was convincing Lou-Lou that watching the rugby World Cup final would be more fun than playing in the sandpit.

8. Don't complain to them:
This is a tricky one. What I mean by this is, don’t burden her with your petty problems. When I complain to Lou-Lou about a bad meeting or a sore back, she couldn’t care less, but if there’s genuinely something wrong, she will instinctively sense it and, with one hug, pick me up more than I thought possible.

9. Don't argue:
There’s simply no point. You will never win, and if you do win, it will be a hollow victory because of the mood she’ll be in for a long time afterwards. Quite frankly, who needs the aggro? This leads to my final and most important point.

10. Don't make them cry:
There is nothing more distressing than watching Lou-Lou’s enormous, innocent brown eyes overflow with tears, while her mouth becomes a gaping, drooling, mournful air-raid siren that pierces through to the core of my heart. I’m utterly defenceless when she cries. And there’s no known antidote. Food? Monkey impressions? A pony? Stabbing myself in the eye with a chopstick? I will agree to anything to stop her crying – and doesn’t she. (Source:Timesonline)

stylist in 3... 2... 1....

So maybe it's not as easy as ABC to get a sexier body. But while we're working on it, how about a little "cheat"? Get sexier hair! And here are 10 easy ways that you can achieve it according to the beauty gurus at InStyle magazine.

1. Add Volume
"Sexy hair should have natural texture and volume," says LA hairstylist Giannandrea, who has created sultry looks on stars like Eva Mendes and Drew Barrymore. He suggests spraying hair evenly with volumizer and combing through before drying. However, since movement is key to sexy hair, he warns against additional products because "heavy styling aids can cause the look to go limp."

2. Lots of Layers
There's a reason wind machines are a photo-shoot staple: Hair that's tousled is more provocative than stiff, straight planks. So fake the breezy effects of a blower with swinging layers. If you have medium to thick hair, ask your stylist for choppy layers all the way around your head. If you have fine strands, all it takes is a few chin-grazing pieces in front.

3. Condition First
For silky strands, apply a treatment mask to dry hair for 10 minutes before you shampoo. This allows natural oils to penetrate the cuticle and soften it from within. After rinsing, lather your scalp with a gentle shampoo to remove dirt and residue.

4. Knotty is Nice
The most appealing looks aren't perfect. Gisele Bundchen's mane man Harry Josh tells us how to re-create her signature rumpled style: "Flip your hair upside down and give it a good shake. Then flip it back over, scrunch the crown, and finger-comb the ends."

5. Veer Off Center
"A low side part works on every face shape," says Josh. Use the end of a rattail comb to draw a line from the hairline at the outer corner of one eyebrow diagonally back to the center of the crown. It creates a sultry swoop in front while maintaining balance on both sides.

Here we have the charming young actress, Kirsten Dunst, sporting a unique loosely fitted updo hairstyle with long parted bangs.

Seeing this hairstyle leads me to believe that she was in a rush and her stylist prepared her hair very urgently.

If that was in fact the case, they did an exceptional job at doing so.

In an interview in mamaista.com, where she was the featured Celebrity Mama of the Month, she gave a list of her top 10 product picks. Here is what she said about us:

"Fave children’s accessory: The No Slippy Hair Clippy Bows. The most precious hair clips! Ashby looks sooooo cute with these in her hair."

We are so honored and so grateful to be part of her list! Thank you so much Nancy!

Kourtney Kardashian Short Hair

Many of us are familiar with seeing the beautiful Kourtney Kardashian with long flowing thick black hair, and it looks amazing i might add, but have you ever seen her with a shorter hairstyle?

Checkout this picture of Kourtney Kardashian while sporting a cute sleek shoulder length hairstyle.

A very edgy hairstyle indeed!

Shoe True! ;)

We all see them everyday. Superwomen who walk sky-high in those luscious high-heel shoes like it was any other walk in the park. Either these women have the best composure in the universe to be smiling through the pain or they just know how to work those shoes without punishing their feet.

I'm thinking it might be the latter. Here are some tips from none other than J. Alexander of America's Next Top Model to look good in those heels without destroying your feet:

  • Buy heels half a size too big to allow a bit of swelling. When your feet hurt, your whole body hurts, and it shows on your face. The point is to look good in those shoes.
  • In heels, much of your weight falls on the balls of your feet, which means that walking requires a whole different motion than you'd use when wearing flats. Aim for a heel and ball-toe motion--the heel and the ball hit the ground at the same time.
  • Take longer steps than you normally would--it causes you to lean back a little bit, which looks very graceful.
  • Drinking and heels do not mix. Every teetering, wobbly step will show the world that you've had one too many.

What Goes Up, Must Come Down

Disappointing day here. The offer on the house fell through, which, we felt in the beginning that we really couldn't get our hopes up until a P&S was signed, and then not even until a closing actually happened, but it was exciting none the less to get an offer. We got one, I am sure we can get another. More upsetting news when the contract that Chris was offered ended up not coming through either due to things beyond Chris's control. So, we continue to wait on the house and Chris will continue the search process for the next job. Please keep us in your thoughts that a good contract will come Chris's way and that the stress of not having work at the moment will be manageable.
Even with these life stressors, we can't help but feel fortunate and thankful for all that we do have, since while we are trying to sell our house, we are very lucky to have another place to live and family that will take us in for that time. Our kids are happy and healthy, and we really can't ask for much more than that!

Salad with a Twist

How about we welcome sunnier days (hopefully) ahead? This makes me in the mood for some salad! One of my favorites has got to be chicken salad: it's two thing I love basking gloriously together in one dish! What more can I ask for?

But recently, I did stumble upon a chicken salad recipe that made me fall for the dish even more. It's my fave salad but with a zesty Southwestern twist to it! What's more, it's super simple to make!

Try it at home yourself and let me know how it turns out! :)

SIMPLE SOUTHWESTERN CHICKEN SALAD

Ingredients:
2 boneless chicken breast halves, cooked and cubed
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup chopped celery
chopped fresh cilantro to taste
1 (1 ounce) pack taco seasoning mix

Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, combine the cubed chicken, mayonnaise, celery, cilantro and seasoning mix. Mix well.
2. Cover bowl and refrigerate for 1 hour.

And voila! A super salad! How easy was that?

I found this recipe at allrecipes.com. Check it out for more recipes you can try!
