What lies beneath - The Estee Lauder Model Search 2009

As of late there has been so much talk of the Estee Lauder Model Search 2009 Competition, I thought it would be a good opener for my blog because as we all know, with competition comes controversy.

Estée Lauder Companies, Inc. is one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of skin care, cosmetics, perfume and hair care products. The company began in 1946, when Joseph Lauder and wife Estée Lauder began producing cosmetics in New York City, New York. At first, they only had four products: super rich all purpose cream, creme pack, cleansing oil and skin lotion. Two years later, they established their first department store account with Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. Over the next fifteen years, they expanded the range and continued to sell their products in the United States and internationally.

The aim of the Model Search 2009 Competition is to find a Brand Ambassador for Estee Lauder in Malaysia and from what Estee Lauder representatives tell me, she has to be someone that can do justice to the core values of Estee Lauder i.e. a woman of substance and natural beauty. Look at Frieda Pinto for example, This years International Estee Lauder Ambassador.

So the question remains...can this woman be found in Malaysia? or are we shooting for the stars?

After looking at the estee lauder model search website, I was actually pleasantly surprised. Most of the contestants were average but there were some that commanded attention.

So where you may ask is all the controversy?? Well, Ladies and Gentleman as painful as this is to say (being a malaysian myself), after we did a little research on the contestants we found that many of them we considered to be naturally beautiful were hiding behind a veil of deception.

Yes you heard me! Photo's have photoshopped! and Faces doused in Makeup as thick as a brick!

Initially Priscilla Daisy Collar ,Soraya Khatijah Matthews and Jennifer Pedersen were among my top picks but after seeing what they look like in person and on facebook. I have had a major change of mind. These girls are pretty to say the least but I'm not quite sure they deserve to win this competition. Estee Lauder needs a face thats classic and unforgettable *Audrey Hepburn comes to mind*. She should be a woman who doesnt need makeup to amplify her features and distort reality, she should use makeup to make her glow.

So who deserves to win? *Not like they're many to choose from* but I personally feel that these three girls - Kok Xinyi, Chua Wei Peng and Marisha Lakhiani have a good chance and one of them could possibly bag this competition. The reason? They're among a select few who actually look very attractive once the concealer comes off.
